New Year, Same You? 4 Ways to Stick to Your Fitness Resolutions All Year

At the start of every year, many of us make resolutions to improve our health and wellness. If you started the year strong but have fallen off the wagon, don’t worry! You can get back on any time. To help you out, Tiffany Stevens from F45 and Leslie Bruce from Tree of Life Wellness have shared their tips for starting and sticking to a fitness routine.

1. Set realistic goals: Make sure your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based (SMART). For Tiffany, pre-scheduling workouts and finding an accountability partner are vital to success.

2. Start slow and listen to your body“You know your body and its capabilities better than anyone else,” says Tiffany.

Don’t jump into a fitness routine too quickly. Both women suggest starting with a pace that suits your body. Even a little bit of movement is better than no movement at all.

3. Allow yourself time to recover: Soreness is normal, especially if you’re new to working out. “Most people jump in and get so sore that they have a hard time coming back and cannot get set into a routine,” says Leslie. Take a day or two between workouts, or try active recovery exercises like stretching or low-intensity workouts to reduce muscle soreness.

4. Incorporate different types of fitness: Mix things up by trying different types of workouts. Leslie suggests finding a studio that offers a variety of classes to keep your routine fresh, exciting, and well-rounded. “You need strength and conditioning, cardiovascular, mobility and flexibility, balance and time for calm and stillness.”
